Tom Smith, director of the Data Science Campus, explains the importance of growing data science capability across the public sector.

The value of sharing and analysing good quality data quickly has been shown in the response to Covid-19 and recognised by the Government's plans to train 500 public sector data analysts in data science, as part of the National Data Strategy. He outlined the role of the campus at the ONS and the training and mentoring programmes on offer and discussed the Government Data Science Partnership set up to develop and share best practice.

Catch up now with his presentation:

Smith was speaking at UKAuthority's Data4Good online event which explored how the public sector has harnessed data in the Covid response; and what together this means for data sharing across the public sector in our 'new normal'. He was among speakers from local and central government and the NHS who took part.
