New funding round includes £2 million to support national implementation of WCCIS
The Welsh Government is to provide £2 million over the next 12 months to promote the national implementation of the Welsh Community Care Information System (WCCIS).
It is making the money available as part of £50 million in the new tranche of the Integrated Care Fund to support the joined up working of health, social care, housing and the third sector, particularly to deliver care close to the people’s homes.
The WCCIS is being rolled out nationally to provide a shared record of care for health boards and social services, supporting efforts for the two sides to coordinate their work around individuals.
The first joint deployment took place for Powys County Council and Powys Teaching Health Board last summer, and the system has been implemented in other local authorities, but has been taken up more slowly so far by health boards.
The new funding follows the provision of £6.7 million for set-up costs and £4 million for implementation under the Integrated Care Fund last year.
Other allocations in the new round of funding comprise: £30 million for project to help older people stay independent, avoid hospital admissions and prevent delayed discharges; £15 million for services for children with learning disabilities and complex needs; £3 million for the delivery of a National Integrated Autism Service.
Minister for Children and Social Care Huw Irranca-Davies (pictured) said: “The £50 million we’re investing in the integrated care fund this year demonstrates our commitment to delivering effective integrated services across health, social services, housing and the third sector.
“It will help deliver new innovative and seamless services for children, older people and for people with learning disabilities and other complex needs, ensuring they receive the care and support they need to live the lives they want to lead.”
