Robert Leach, interim deputy chief executive, Police ICT Company

Both police forces and the supplier community can expect big gains from a move to a more standards based procurement and systems approach, explains the deputy head of the Police ICT Company.

How? Standards promote a more open market where one supplier is never allowed to become too dominant and limit the scope for commercial competition. They will also give confidence to ICT purchasers that they are limiting their risk and  driving down support costs, Leach explains.

Supported by Microsoft, UKAuthority and research participants from police, government and associated bodies, published a white paper, 'Digitising Policing'.
