Giles Herdale, head of the Digital Intelligence and Investigation Programme, Essex Police, College of Policing, Home Office

Is all crime going online? No, although there is a growing problem with cyber crime. Instead, crime of all sorts has an increasing digital aspect when it comes to recording and reporting it, while at the same time the public wants sound advice on dealing with issues such as virtual bullying.

The best response, Herdale explains, is acceptance of the need for our skills to be developed in this area, allied to a recognition that all disciplines in the force - front, back office and community - need appropriate training and skills to cope.
