Two Midlands boroughs to share back office software

North Warwickshire and Nuneaton & Bedworth Councils sign five-year deal for Civica system

Two West Midlands boroughs have moved towards using a shared platform for a group of back office processes in a five-year, £700,000 deal with Civica.

North Warwickshire Borough Council and Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council are planning to begin using the company’s OPENRevenues system by December under a shared services agreement.

It will deal with council tax, non-domestic rates and housing and council tax benefits.

This marks a move to consolidate the councils’ IT operations following the merger of their management teams in 2015, at which time they were using different software providers.

Simone Hines, director of finance and procurement at Nuneaton & Bedworth, said: “We wanted to extend the shared service between the boroughs, increase resilience across our teams and ultimately provide a better service to our customers. One of our key objectives was to empower citizens to communicate with us at the most convenient time to suit their lifestyles.”

Among the capabilities of the software is a self-service function for residents of the boroughs.

It is already used by 80 local authorities, including all five district councils across Warwickshire.
