The Kemnal Academies Trust (TKAT) has signed MLL Telecom on a seven-year deal to provide a high speed broadband service.
The contract, which also includes a centrally managed firewall and content filtering, has been awarded under the Crown Commercial Services’ Education Technology Framework Agreement. The deployment began late last year and will continue over the next two years.
MLL will provide a new wide area network, upgrade internet connections and supervise the upgrading of the internet connections at all sites. This will involve the use of its carrier integration model that includes services from BT Wholesale, Vodafone, SSE and Virgin Media Business.
TKAT is one of the largest academy trusts in the South-East with 45 schools in total. Under the deal, all of its secondary schools will have 1Gbps bandwidth while the primary schools will have 200Mbps with the capacity to upgrade to 1Gbps. Each site will also have a BT Wholesale FTTC circuit for resilience.
Kell Weber, TKAT’s senior information technology analyst, said it “will have a future proof network to provide our teachers and students with fast, reliable and secure connection to the internet, voice and data services including Wi-Fi, and the ability to access bandwidth hungry cloud based education platforms.
"These services will provide a high level of e-safety to ensure all users are safeguarded in their digital workspace.”
