Scotland’s local authority procurement agency has taken an early step in setting up a framework for robotic process automation (RPA) solutions.

Scotland Excel has published a prior information notice sounding out the market on the potential for a framework.

It says that it relates to solutions that could facilitate the automation of business processes across a range of council services, but is still to confirm the lot structure.

The move comes two months after the Digital Office for Scottish Local Government emphasised the potential for RPA and artificial intelligence in local government, pointing towards the plan for a procurement framework.

Its business plan includes a digital council stream that includes encouraging local government to develop the use of RPA and AI, working with procurement organisation Scotland Excel on a common approach to purchasing and implementation, and developing a pipeline of common business challenges.

It also identified a procurement framework as one of the relevant outcomes.
