Redbridge introduces local track and trace system in a week

The London Borough of Redbridge set up a Covid-19 track and trace system in seven days through extending existing casework management software.

The system allows a limited number of council staff to contact local residents who may have been in contact with someone with the virus, using data from Public Health England on recent positive tests.

Affected residents are first contacted by telephone and then may be visited at home, based on automated rules. After contact is made, they are sent text messages reminding them to continue to self-isolate.

The service was built by software supplier Civica as an extension to the borough’s iCasework cloud platform, which records all contacts made.

“As we continue to experience a second wave of the virus, making sure that our community has access to the information they need to protect themselves and their families is of huge importance,” said Emeran Saigol, Redbridge’s operational director for digital and customer experience. “We knew we needed a solution that was not only secure, but flexible and intuitive to allow us to scale as required.”
