The Police Digital Service (PDS) is preparing to unveil a new app for officers to record details of incidents when tasers are used.

It will make the Taser PowerApp available through its Solutions Catalogue and is planning to run a webinar on the subject at midday on Wednesday 11 May. This will be available to watch after the event.

PDS said the app has been designed by a police officer to help ensure the appropriate use of tasers, which is highly scrutinised internally and externally.

It records details of when a taser has been discharged, records the details of officers involves and plots the locations of discharges on maps.

This is intended to help a police force understand the characteristics and details of an incident and obtain insights for intelligence and training. It also gives a trainer the option to provide feedback and note best practice or areas for development.

Information from the app can also be used for referrals to a force professional standards department.
