Pendle Council extends core services deal with Liberata


Company to work with borough on digital transformation programme with increased emphasis on self-service

Pendle Borough Council has added a 10-year extension to its deal with Liberata to handle core council services, taking it up 2030.

The company said the extension is valued at £54 million and is aimed at providing the Lancashire council with efficiency savings of £4.9 million and the delivery of a transformation to self-service for residents, employees and suppliers.

Pendle has been working with Liberata since 2005 and currently provides services including revenues and benefits, strategic HR and payroll, IT, fraud and error, property services and customer services.

The digital transformation will involve an investment of almost £1 million into self-service technology and is aimed at moving 65% of customer interactions online over the next five years. It will also take in more automation of the council’s forms and increased availability of its services out of regular hours.

The company said it helped the council collect 99.1% of business rates in 2015-16, its highest ever figure, and that it has created more than 150 jobs in the area. 

Councillor Mohammed Iqbal, leader of Pendle Council, said: “This move will further secure Liberata as a major employer in Pendle, and in particular Nelson, where it employs 300 people in Number One Market Street. That footfall has a big impact on the town’s economy.”

Liberata has already announced new strategic partnerships with the London Boroughs of Hounslow and Hillingdon this year.
