The Parliamentary Digital Service (PDS) has developed a toolkit to support the career development of people in technical digital roles in Parliament.
Its head of digital capability, Julie Byrne, said it has been developed as a way of assessing skills and identifying opportunities and to help people plan their careers
The toolkit consists of a skills framework, assessment tools and a learning and development pathway. It outlines the rolls and skills needed to deliver digital services, and helps users see how their work fits into the organisation’s priorities and key services.
It is being rolled out in stages, with the first steps having been a focus on technical digital roles such as software engineering and technical architecture within PDS, and launching the skills framework and assessment tool.
The next step is planned to be the development learning pathways.
Feedback and review
Byrne said it will be further developed based on user feedback, with plans to review how it is working and measure its impact on recruitment and retention.
“Our guiding principle is that everyone can improve on something, and that learning a new skill can be personally as well as professionally rewarding,” she added.
