North Wales Fire and Rescue Service (NWFRS) has agreed on a five-year, £788,000 deal with Capita to deliver an integrated communication control system.

The move is aimed at supporting its control room operations in transition to the Emergency Services Network (ESN), using the company’s DS3000 software.

It will also maintain connectivity with the current Airwave emergency network until the ESN becomes available.

The new solution includes an ESN ready dispatch communication server interface, and a single touchscreen control capability to deliver a unified platform for telephone and radio communications.

In addition to connecting both NWFRS control rooms sites, the DS3000 will enable access to a third ‘out of area’ site to improve its resilience and increase technical capacity.

Capita will also provide a fully managed support service.

Richard Fairhead, assistant chief fire officer at NWFRS, said: “We are going through an important transition for our control room operations that will help improve services and increase operational effectiveness. Capita’s solution will not only support us in delivering services but will future proof us for ESN as well as other technical and operational changes on the horizon.”
