Announces second group of trusts to work on implementations over the next few weeks

NHS England has earmarked another 33 healthcare trusts, labelled ‘fast followers’, for the quick implementation of public Wi-Fi around their estates.

It follows the near completion of rolling out the NHS Wi-Fi project to the initial 16 trusts, and is aimed at ensuring the service is live for each of the new group by the end of March.

The move is the latest step in the programme, announced in 2015, under which NHS England is committed to making Wi-Fi available throughout its estate.

blogpost on the project says the NHS Wi-Fi team is aiming to have the service in place in all acute, community and mental health hospitals by the end of the year.

It says that over the past 12 months more than 3,000 GP practices have begun to offer the free Wi-Fi to over 25 million patients, and that most of the 16 high priority trusts that received funding in August have rolled it out across their estates. The remainder are expected to do so by the end of this month.

Under the programme, local clinical commissioning groups and NHS trusts are responsible for choosing a supplier to provide a system that complies with a set of policies and guidance defined by NHS Digital.
