HMRC plans for tobacco IDs

HM Revenue & Customs is making plans to issue unique identifiers for every packet of cigarettes and hand rolling tobacco in the country as part of the creation of a tobacco traceability system.

It has begun to look for a partner to issue the identifiers to tobacco manufacturers and importers, for which it may charge a fee, and to economic operators in the supply chain. The procurement notice says the service should be in place by 20 May 2019, as mandated by the EU’s Tobacco Directive.

 

Survey shows councils moving slowly to cloud

A majority of local authorities are making slow progress in implementing a ‘cloud first’ policy, according to a survey by digital solutions supplier Citrix.

From 40 responses to a series of freedom information requests, it found that 80% of councils still access and manage citizen data on-premise in some capacity, 85% have less than half of their applications and data in the cloud, and 77% store less than a quarter in a cloud environment. In addition, 30% use a private cloud and 25% a hybrid, although 75% of the councils said they were considering an investment in the cloud over the next 12 months.

 

Wales gets new website for planning applications

The Welsh Government has launched the new Planning Applications Wales website, replacing the Planning Portal as a route for submitting planning applications or associated consents to local authorities in the country.

It said the site has been designed to make it quicker and easier to use, with simplified forms and an emphasis on the Welsh planning system. Guidance on what types of development can be pursed with the need to apply for planning permission is on the Welsh Government website.

 

Lincolnshire NHS Trust partners with Civica

Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has signed a five-year contract with Civica to use its Civica Prescribing electronic prescribing and medicines administration (ePMA) software.

It aims to reduce the risk of clinical incidence for patients by using a single medication record that delivers precise information to frontline users. It will be interoperable with the trust’s portal to show a patient’s full medication history.
