Adrian Hancock stands down from Socitm

Adrian Hancock is to stand down as chief executive of public sector IT association Socitm at the end of this month to concentrate on leading a charity and church in County Durham.

He has been with the organisation since 2004 and became chief executive in 2008. He said: “I’m confident that Socitm will continue to grow its position as a trusted source of information and become the community of choice for digital leaders and managers.”

David Bryant, commercial director of Socitm, will assume the role of senior executive director while the society recruits a replacement.

 

GovWiFi grows at 20% per month

The Government Digital Service has reported that that GovWiFi – the service which provides a single log-in for WiFi in government buildings – is now being used for up to 15,000 transactions per day with monthly growth of around 20%.

It has released figures showing that the service now works in more than 100 locations around the country, and that users visiting more than one building per day currently represent about 15% of the total. Also, it recently hit its millionth transaction.

“Eventually, we want GovWiFi to be the standard way to connect to WiFi across all government and public sector locations,” GDS said.

 

Smart ticketing consultation for Scotland

Transport Scotland has launched a public consultation on smart ticketing. It is seeking views specifically on a national ‘epurse’ smart payment scheme – already in place in Dundee and Aberdeen – the shape of any necessary legislation and related issues.

It is being run alongside a consultation on local bus services in Scotland, both of which will feed into a new Transport Bill.

 

Stockport on digital award shortlist

The Digital by Design Programme at Stockport Council has been shortlisted for this year’s Granicus Digital Strategy Awards.

The programme has been recognised for its introduction of new online tools and their effective communication to residents and has been shortlisted for the Digital Achievement Award (Capstone Award), Granicus’ highest honour of excellence for organisations leading the way in public sector digital outreach and engagement.
