Iain Patterson to leave GDS
Another senior figure is leaving the Government Digital Service, with the Cabinet Office having confirmed the impending departure of Iain Patterson (pictured), the director of Common Technology Services.
Patterson returned to GDS in December 2015 after being seconded to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority in 2013. There are no details so far on his next move.
Patterson’s departure is the latest in a series since Kevin Cunnington took over from Stephen Foreshew-Cain as head of GDS in August of last year. Others to leave senior roles have included Liam Maxwell and Paul Maltby.
Digital to get share of Welsh libraries money
The Welsh Government has announced an allocation of £2.7 million to develop libraries in the country, with some of the money set to go to digital projects.
It said that part of the funding will “support the digital offer from museums, archives and libraries, including the National Digital Library Service, which allows customers to access free e-books, e-zines, e-audio books, e-comics, and reference sources”.
Some of the money will also go to deal with issues around preserving digital information and improving online access to archive resources.
LGfL invests in ransomware protection
The London Grid for Learning has taken steps to prevent ransomware attacks on schools and its other customers through Sophos Intercept X endpoint security software.
The organisation’s chief executive, John Jackson, stated on his LinkedIn page: “I'm delighted to announce that LGfL is saving schools potentially millions of pounds and providing enhanced protection from Ransomware by purchasing Sophos Intercept X for every school we serve and providing it as part of SuperCloud for the public sector.”
