The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is planning to develop a Defence Freight Movements Service (DFMS) underpinned by a digital and data capability.
It has published a market notice indicating that it will need a systems integrator to deliver the capability configured from a commercial off-the-shelf software.
The plan – which has an estimated value of £50 million – is for the DFMS to support the delivery of material and equipment across the support chain for defence, enabling users to request, plan, control and track movements. It will also involve the management of requisitions, transport, ports, materials yards and relevant global trade.
It will serve an estimated 10,000 users.
Data elements
The market notice says the systems integrator will manage the introduction of the solution into service, including data migration from legacy systems and integration with other MoD systems. This will provide capabilities for near real time data and analytics services.
It will also deliver a core basic training package for further development by a third party, and support during the roll out of the solutions.
The move is part of the MoD’s wider Business Modernisation for Support programme, itself part of a wider Support Transformation portfolio of change within defence.
