Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has launched a new digital tool for people to see how many new homes have been built in their area over recent years.

It has been made available as he increases the target for building new council homes in the city.

The tool makes it possible to enter a postcode for details on the number of new council and affordable homes built each year since 2016, and an Excel spreadsheet with figures for each borough.

Khan has also announced an intention of helping boroughs to start work on building 20,000 new council homes by 2024. A major element of this is in making relevant funds available through borrowing from the Housing Revenue Account.

“There’s no quick fix to London’s housing crisis, but we’re taking some big steps in the right direction by backing a renaissance in council homebuilding,” he said.
