Watford Borough Council has joined the Local Land Charges (LLC) Register for land and property searches.
HM Land Registry, which runs the central register, said the Watford had become the ninth council to join – while acknowledging that a technical issue had disrupted searches for data from Peterborough Council, which had joined just days previously.
The council has migrated its local land charges data to the register, which Land Registry designed as a central digital resource for land and property searches in place of those managed by local authorities.
Helen Fisher, head of place and shaping at Watford, said: “We are pleased to be at the forefront of this digital transformation. Our local land charges data was a mixture of computerised and paper records.
“By updating our local land charges data into a single digital source, we are providing confidence in the accuracy of the data and helping to improve the efficiency of buying and selling property in Watford.”
Peterborough problem
Searches for Peterborough were not available on Thursday afternoon. Land Registry’s statement read: “We are currently experiencing a technical issue with our Local land Charges service for searches relating to the Peterborough City Council area.
“We are working to rectify the issue as soon as possible. While we do this, searches for Peterborough are unavailable. Searches for all other areas live on the service are available as normal.”
