The Home Office is planning to develop a shared applications service for software applications across its estate.

It has awarded Atos IT Services a three-year, £72 million contract as its application support partner in the programme, specifying it is for the development, maintenance and support of products.

The initial tender notice outlined the need to support the department’s digital, data and technology (DDaT) function in developing, deploying and operating applications as part of multi-disciplinary product teams, and providing support, improvements or decommissioning of applications and software.

Among the aims are to reduce the cost of managed service support through consolidating the number of contracts and optimising resources, standardising processes, technologies and tools, achieving a more rapid deployment of new applications, and making them more resilient.

“The realisation of this vision and the associated benefits will require a joint endeavour across our business,” the document states. “Change and transition activities will need to occur across all areas of DDaT, with a collective responsibility to ensure a smooth transition to the new operating model.”
