Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust has begun to implement the Better Meds electronic prescribing and medicines administration (ePMA) solution.

It has deployed the system in a pilot ward for end-of-life care then a rehabilitation ward, and is now aiming to have it in place throughout its seven community hospitals by October.

The project has involved representatives of the trust’s multi-disciplinary teams including medicine, palliative care, pharmacy, nursing, IT and the chief information officer, along with inputs from sisters and matrons in community hospitals.

Fazila Tagari, project manager at the trust, said: “Some nurses had been working using paper for 20-30 years and so it was a big change to a new system. We found that once they had seen how Better Meds works, they were very happy with it.”
