The Geospatial Commission has published the first tranche of over 300 datasets it is pulling together related to the housing and planning process.
It has highlighted 50 available under the Open Government Licence (OGL) for re-use, under categories for data catalogues, building, environmental, land, planning and statistics.
Among those included are the datasets for Land Registry Titles Freehold, ePIMS central government buildings, ancient woodlands, flood maps for planning, brownfield land, mining and ground stability, energy performance certificates, National Grid data, demographic data, and housing market statistics.
The move reflects the focus on housing, land and planning in the commission’s annual plan for 2019-20, aimed at supporting the Government’s plan to increase the number of new houses built.
Programme support
In announcing the move, the commission stated: “We have brought them together for the first time in support of our wider Housing and Planning Programme, and today we are publishing a list of 50, 49 of which are covered by OGL.
“In the coming weeks, we will add further datasets to this list, which will help those looking to understand what data is available and how it can be accessed.”
It added that the main source of the 300 datasets identified is the British Geological Survey with 49, followed by local authorities with 42. Around half are published under OGL.
