New service enters public beta with indication it could have wider use in the future
The Environment Agency is working on a digital platform to make it possible for landfill operators to submit returns online.
It said that the Report landfill data service has now gone into public beta, and that while it is currently available only to major operators its scope will be expanded as its development continues.
The platform has been developed to feed data to the Emissions Monitoring Management and Assessment (EMMA) database, to provide a standard way of submitting data and to check it against the limits set by an operator’s permit.
It includes a detailed page of guidance to help landfill operators format their data correctly, along with a built-in validation feature to check for any errors.
The work is being led by a team in the Environment Agency’s Bristol office, which has called for feedback from anyone using the platform.
A blogpost from the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs says the platform could be used for other purposes in the future.
Historically, landfill data has been submitted by post and email.
