DVLA launches online driver tachograph applications

23/06/21

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has launched a digital service for drivers to apply, renew or replace a tachograph card.

It follows the launch of a service for companies to make applications in 2019.

DVLA said the new service, available on GOV.UK, requires a valid GB photocard licence to apply. After applying, drivers will receive an email notification and can choose to be updated on the progress by text message.

Cards should be issued with 24 hours of the application compared with 10 days or more the paper based process.

Chief executive Julie Lennard said: “This quick and easy to use service will give drivers who need tachograph cards greater flexibility around how, when and where they transact with us, and they will get their new card back even quicker.

Tachograph cards store data on tachometers which record engine speeds on a vehicle. DVLA said there are about 78,000 card holders.
