The Department of Health has begun an initiative aimed at some of the most senior civil servants in the health service to boost digital skills, which, if successful, could roll out to more than 3,000 more civil servants. Digital Strategy manager Jason Caplin writes on the Department's blog, that the latest cross-government Annual Skills Review and the Department's own benchmarking found that senior staff at the Department do not lack digital skills but lack the confidence to use them at work. "Nobody in DH should call themselves a Luddite and think that's a virtue", he writes. The trial will see the recruitment of 50 'digital champions' to act as early adopters and a programme of informal training.
