The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) has said it is making funds available for projects to provide information assurance in military systems.

The innovation funding agency within the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has launched a new innovation focus area on military systems information assurance (MISA), saying it will provide two levels of funding.

Projects with a lower technical readiness level (TRL) of 2-4 will be considered as emerging innovation and receive up to £150,000 to provide a proof of concept over six months.

Those with a TRL of 4-6 will be considered rapid impact and receive up to £350,00 to develop a concept demonstrator within 12 months.

DASA said it is looking for MISA projects that account for the unique and hostile demands on information systems during military operations.

These could involve non-conventional technical approaches to information assurance, novel uses of cryptographic techniques or alternative, non-cryptographic solutions, and address either current or future security issues.

It cited possibilities of being able to provide assured information flows across enterprise level architecture networks and low bandwidth, intermittent communications channels, including innovative ways of securing data at rest and methods of authentication.

It has invited proposals for two cycles, to run until 5 January then 2 March 2022.
