The Government has committed to making £15 million available for new digital investment in the justice system.

The money has been earmarked as part of the Spring Budget, details of which were published last week.

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) said the investment will increase the use of new technology and AI to boost productivity in the sector by reducing administrative burdens.

Other provisions for the sector include £55 million to speed up processes in family courts, partly through offering online target guidance and earlier legal advice.

Quicker resolutions

Lord Chancellor and Justice Secretary Alex Chalk, said: “This significant new investment will ensure thousands more families can access the legal advice they need to resolve their disputes as early as possible – without the trauma of courtroom battles.

“It will also allow us to harness new technologies and fund innovative schemes, such a risk profiling for offenders, that will drive down reoffending and keep the public safer, while delivering better value for taxpayers and a more efficient justice system.”

The MoJ also pointed to allocations of £6 million to accelerate the roll out of technology for prison staff to determine prisoner release dates and track prisoner attendance at appointments.
