Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has signed to use the Dedalus cloud hosted Medchart electronic prescribing and medications administration (ePMA) system.

The agreement follows a competitive tender process through the NHS Shared Business Services procurement framework.

The company said the MedChart solution supports all areas of routine and advanced prescribing and is used in over 200 hospitals globally.

It is delivered through the Dedalus Healthcare Cloud Platform powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS) which involves a fully managed service.

Dr Doug Simkiss, medical director at the trust, said: “This investment represents the trust’s ongoing commitment to delivering safe , high quality care through our use of technology. As a community healthcare trust, we uniquely interface with numerous settings and services across the region, and see the value that good technology can bring.

“We are committed to creating a great place to work and learn, enabling our colleagues to be the best that they can be and the trust’s commitment to our digital medicines journey highlights this through  significant staff engagement, from both clinical and non-clinical backgrounds across all of our divisions.”
