The Local Digital Fund is a really big opportunity for the sector to help 'fix the plumbing' in local public services, says Paul Maltby, chief digital officer at MHCLG.
Coming on the back of the Local Digital Declaration it will see £7.5 million awarded to councils to fuel those “extra pieces of work” as they develop digital services, to turn them into repeatable patterns and tools that can be used by others. The aim is to get out of the Hobson’s choice of either legacy technology that is no longer fit for purpose or building new digital services from scratch every time.
The Local Digital Fund is trying to take some of the pain out of that journey, to help councils to learn, reuse and adapt from work that has gone before.
