Caerphilly County Borough Council and the Welsh Government have set up a procurement framework for technology used in the country’s schools.
They have agreed a contract for a dynamic purchasing system, which has just gone into force and will run for five years, on behalf of the 24 local authorities in Wales.
According to the contract notice, the framework has value of up to £200 million. It involves three lots – core infrastructure and wired and wireless networking, end user devices and teaching and learning tools – with eight suppliers, four of which are classed as SMEs.
Names on the list are Centerprise, Getech, XMA, Comen Computer Supplies, Computacenter, Insight Direct, BT and Cae Technology Services.
While the contract currently covers infrastructure and hardware, the notice says it can evolve as the underlying change programme moves forward. The notice indicates this could extend the framework into areas such as device management, software and services, and curriculum delivery and support services to exploit ICT in the classroom.
