Vale of Glamorgan adopts app for recycling centre visits

Mark Say Managing Editor

Vale of Glamorgan Council has begun to use a mobile app for the public to book slots at its recycling centres.

App on smartphone

Named Generic and developed by Zipporah, a specialist in booking and resource management, the app has been launched to help deal with a surge in demand as the centres reopen after a shutdown from the pandemic.

The Welsh Government has highlighted the availability of the app and said it is being taken up by other local authorities in the UK.

It provides a booking function and gives users clear instructions on what to do before and during their visit to a recycling centre.

Economy, Transport and North Wales Minister, Ken Skates said: “This is a fantastic example of a Welsh company taking action in a time of crisis to introduce a new product for the benefit of public services and local residents.

“Indications show the Generic app has already proved a success at recycling centres in the Vale of Glamorgan. This is absolutely essential in ensuring physical distancing rules are maintained and people can come and go with confidence and ease.”
