Stoke-on-Trent City Council has renewed its contact with critical infrastructure company Telent for the management of traffic flows.
Following an earlier deal from 2018 they have agreed on a new four-year contract – with options to extend for a further two – under which the company will be responsible for the supply and maintenance of the councils’ intelligent transport system (ITS) equipment, including remote monitoring systems, variable message signs, traffic signals and street furniture.
It will also deliver temporary traffic management with the aim of improving quality control, risk management, flexibility, emergency responses and the control of health and safety risks.
Telent’s Optima Hub ITS, which is currently deployed at 129 sites across Stoke, will be used to collect data from the equipment and feed it onto a data platform to assess the condition of roadside assets.
Reducing congestion
Will Willis, senior engineer for infrastructure at Stoke-on-Trent, said: “We’re looking forward to building on the success of the past six years with Telent and its solutions, including Optima Hub, which has provided valuable insights into the performance of our assets and will assist the reduction of congestion, both day-to-day and around popular events happening in Stoke.”
Telent indicated that the events will include football games at Stoke City and Port Vale, Trentham Live events, the Potter’s Arf marathon and the Station Road improvement scheme.
Its director of traffic technology, Paul Owen, said: “Our extensive experience with Stoke-on-Trent City Council gives us the knowledge to consistently deliver tailored, innovative solutions and enhance the efficiency of the contract with cost savings and process improvements, alongside quality and safety advancements.
“With our Optima Hub solution, the city council will have access to data integrated from multiple sources, presented in a user-friendly format, empowering them to safely monitor and manage traffic equipment."
