Smart places – urban and rural – need a common vision

Leadership is crucial to building an effective vision for the future of smart public services says Stephen Baker, chief executive of Suffolk Coastal and Waveney District Councils. The sector needs help too to "put colour on the bones" of what technology can now bring to the reimagination of public services. 

Common standards, principles and interoperability will be key to success, he says. The pace of technological change will always be an issue, but be agile, be flexible and be prepared to innovate and adapt. 

Meanwhile, ensuring access to all is key to keeping communities across the country at the same level with the same opportunities.
