Synectics Solutions wins two-year deal to implement DefCARS2 programme

The process set up to help regulate Ministry of Defence (MoD) contract allocation finally has a new technology partner to support its delivery.

Synectics Solutions has been signed up to deliver the Defence Contracts and Analysis Reporting System, or DefCARS2, which acts as the national independent expert of single source procurement and the custodian of the single source procurement framework

It was set up by the Government to ensure a level playing field for suppliers in the sector, and the MoD spends just over £8 billion via single source procurement each year.

The system is envisaged as a way for defence contractors to report and store information while providing a secure platform for the Ministry of Defence to monitor, manage, analyse and report on spend, as defined in the 2014 Defence and Reform Act.

Managed by a body called the Single Source Regulation Office (SSRO) Synectics Solutions has won a two-year deal for the implementation after what SSRO says was a “a challenging procurement process”.

“We needed to partner with an organisation that held the relevant public sector experience and pedigree in the delivery of robust security intensive data solutions,” said the body in the official notice of the contract announcement.

Commenting on its win, head of public sector services at the supplier, Mark Sanders, noted: “We are very excited by this challenge and look forward to working in partnership with the SSRO and Ministry of Defence to deliver the Defence Contracts and Analysis Reporting System.”

Synectics Solutions also runs the National Fraud Initiative, which is helping many parts of the public sector protect their budgets from illegal access.
