North Devon and Torridge District Councils are preparing to launch an app to support businesses in the area.

Names Discvr it is being launched in advance of the half term holiday and will provide a showcase for businesses, events and promotions in the area.

It can be tailored to each town and features will include a page for each business taking part in the programme, a location function that will point users to the relevant town’s content, push notifications and a function for people to tailor their feed to what they want to hear about.

Councillor Malcolm Prowse, North Devon’s lead member for economic development and regeneration, said Discvr will offer “a free platform for businesses to promote themselves directly to people's phones. It will be a great addition for residents and tourists, signposting them to places to eat, shop, enjoy leisure facilities and events - and take advantage of special offers."

Lead member for economic regeneration at Torridge, Councillor Bob Hicks, said: “This is another great example of collaboration between many partners to support the local economy across the whole of northern Devon.”

It will be available from both councils’ websites through a QR code from 20 October for Android and iOS devices.
