The Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) has announced plans for an online platform for NHS patients to obtain information ahead of planned surgeries.

Named My Planned Care it is planned to go live later this month and will include expected wating times, links to personalised support and advice on prevention services such as diet and exercise plans.

DHSC said that NHS providers will be able to upload supportive information to help patients manage their conditions.

The platform will initially be available through nhs.uk, and there are plans to also provide the service through the NHS App at a later date.

It forms part of plans to deal with the backlog of elective care caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, accompanied by measures such as the roll out of more than 100 community diagnostic centres and extra surgical hubs.

Health and Social Care Secretary Sajid Javid said: “This platform, combined with our record funding to tackle the backlog and invest in innovative diagnosis and treatment will help us ensure access to life changing care and support for people no matter who they are or where they live.”
