NHS Digital has extended its deal with Deloitte for providing digital support for the Covid-19 National Test Service.

It has published a contract notice for a £51 million deal for the design and building a digital platform, ordering portals and mobile applications for the service.

A spokesperson for NHS Digital said: "In support of the national pandemic response, the contract relates to building and evolving tools to support the expansion of the testing programme as it scales up. This IT service has been in operation under NHS Digital responsibility since June 2020.”

It is part of the effort to keep up mass testing for the coronavirus, taking in millions of people per week, although NHS Digital said it is focused on services that are ongoing and not directly related to the government’s programme of ‘surge testing’, which began on 1 February.

The organisation said Deloitte is delivering cloud software and support taking in architecture and design, hosting, infrastructure and application delivery, cloud testing, cyber security and data risk, data visualisation and Salesforce cloud solutions.

The contract is set to run until the end of March and includes an option to extend, which the notice says is likely to be utilised to ensure there is no interruption to the service.
