Quarter of public bodies unprepared for cyber attack

Nearly one in four (23%) public sector organisations in the UK are unprepared for a cyber attack, according to the Advanced Trends Report 2017 from software and services company Advanced.

Compiled as part of a broader survey of UK organisations, the findings came from 353 responses from public sector organisations and compare with an average figure of 18% - indicating that the public sector has been responding more slowly to the threats.

When asked about which technology public sector organisations are actively using, 67% said they are investing in cloud based systems (a 7% increase from last year). Some are still in the decision-making process, with a separate Advanced report revealing that 33% are looking or planning to adopt cloud technology in the near future.

Southwark joins shared service

The London Borough of Southwark has now joined Brent and Lewisham in their shared ICT service. The council’s head of IT and digital services Mark Compton-James said on LinkedIn that it is now in full delivery, a year after the idea was first floated.

In May, Southwark’s director of modernisation Emma Marinos told the Socitm spring conference that it planned to move into the shared service when its existing ICT deal with Capita expired.

Greenwich takes Tascomi Public Protection

The London Borough of Greenwich has awarded a contract to Tascomi for the provision of its cloud based Public Protection software and integrated online services portal. It plans to use the solution in transforming its service provision in environmental health, licensing, trading standards and private sector housing.

Tascomi said the solution is fully hosted on an ISO 27001 accredited private cloud facility and is mobile by default. The inclusion of the portal will enable residents and businesses to submit, pay for and track applications for a range of licences.
