Northern Ireland’s Department for Infrastructure (DfI) has launched a new version of the region’s planning portal.

It said the new portal replaces the version that has reached the end of its operational life and will make it easier for users to engage with the planning process by submitting and reviewing applications online, reporting breaches of planning control and submitting requests for regional planning applications.

It has been developed by data solutions company TerraQuest under a contract that will involve support for the system until at least 2030.

The new portal was funded by the DfI and 10 councils in Northern Ireland. It has been described as the largest joint IT project between central and local government in the region to date, and is expected to handle over 12,000 planning applications per year.
