The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) has declared its enthusiasm for the return of remote and hybrid meetings to the local government sector.

The organisation – which represents town and parish councils – has issued a statement applauding the Government’s launch of a new consultation on reinstating the rules allowing councils to use remote technology for meetings rather than requiring physical attendance.

“This flexibility will empower parish and town councils to respond quicker and effectively to their communities' needs through in-person, remote, or hybrid formats,” NALC said.

This comes after the Local Government Association had declared its support for hybrid meetings.

The previous Government relaxed the rule requiring physical attendance at statutory meetings to allow virtual meetings during the Covid-19 lockdown of 2020-21, but reimposed it as the pandemic receded.

NALC has published its full response to the consultation (requiring log-in).
