Milton Keynes District Council has become the latest to join HM Land Registry’s Local Land Charges Register.

It has become the 12th local authority to join since the register, which provides a central source for searches on local land charges, was launched in July 2018.

Peter Marland, leader of the council, said: “We’re proud to be among the first local authorities to move our land charges and personal searches function onto a new national digital database.

“This is a testament to the rigorous processes that the team have put in place, and the new database will help us improve the service even further.”

Karina Singh, director of transformation at Land Registry, said it is working with other councils to migrate their data to the register as part of a phased approach.

Earlier this year the organisation attributed the slow progress in signing up local authorities partly to problems with the quality of data to be migrated.
