The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) had signed Capgemini as its strategic technology partner in a five-year deal valued at £40 million.

The deal provides an element of the organisation’s strategy for the 2020s, which although light on detail about technology includes commitments to simplify customer journeys and keep data safe.

FSCS has the responsibility of protecting customers of financial services firms that have failed through an online claims service.

According to the contract notice, its two major IT contracts – for application development and testing and IT hosting services – are coming to an end and it is looking for a new approach to sourcing services.

The technology partner role involves introducing new ways of working,  accelerating the procurement of technology to support a transformation programme, reducing delivery risks and helping the organisation develop the capabilities of its chief information officer function.

Among the tech priorities set out are to step up the use of cloud services – with an element of support for Microsoft Azure and Office 365 – replace the main claims technology platforms and to take on new technologies.

The scope of services is split into three areas: foundation services, transformation services and future services.

The contract includes options for two extensions of a year each.
