The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) has launched an online service for leaseholders and residents of tower blocks to keep track of safety funding applications for their buildings.

Named the Leaseholder and Resident Service, it will give people access to updates on the status of their building’s application the Government’s Building Safety Fund.

This is the latest stage in the response to concerns over building standards, notably fire cladding, after the Grenfell Tower tragedy in 2017. The Government has set up a £5.1 billion fund to remediate unsafe cladding on higher risk residential buildings of 18 metres and higher.

Under the new service, leaseholders and residents will receive a unique code from their building owners that will enable them to track the progress of an application of funding for their building, with monthly updates of the information.

DLUHC encouraged people who do not receive a code to contact the building owners.

Minister of State for Building Safety and Fire Lord Greenhalgh (pictured) said: “Everyone – including leaseholders - has a right to know what is happening with their building and to live safely. Today’s launch is a key step in providing them with both the service and the peace of mind that they deserve.”
