The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) has launched the second phase of its funding competition for telexistence projects with a pot of £1.3 million.

The agency of the Ministry of Defence is conducting the programme on behalf of the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.

It indicated that it expects to fund several proposals with a maximum value of £400,000 each.

This follows the first round of funding in which DASA allocated £800,000 to 11 projects.

Telexistence technology allows a human user to operate in an environment without being there, which can reduce risk and provide logistical benefits.

It involves the integration of telepresence – which enables the operator to see and hear as though in a remote environment – robotics and wearable assistive technologies, and haptic feedback sensors.
