The Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) is working on a Data Essentials standard to promote digital, data and technology (DDaT) skills among senior Civil Service staff.
This is part of its effort to raise the general level of DDaT skills among people whose work is focused on other areas.
Barbra Webber, a Government Digital Service Academy facilitator, has outlined the plan in a blogpost, saying it will provide a benchmark to senior civil servants to assess and take on new skills.
In its current form the standard covers five areas – data essentials, technology essentials, digital essentials, users first and innovation mindset – although it is being iterated.
There are plans to publish the full content in the near future after receiving feedback.
Appetite for improvement
“We know that there is strong appetite for improving digital data and technology skills in SCS across the Civil Service and so we aim to gather together a number of expert and authoritative providers to deliver learning across the DDaT Essentials,” Weber said.
“This will enable ease of access to pertinent learning for SCS to upskill in these areas.”
She also invited people in the Civil Service to join a working group on the issue through an online survey.
