Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has begun a major project for the digitisation of its medical records.

It is carrying out the work as part of its EPR programme with software supplier System C and, along with partners IMMJ Systems and Iron Mountain, is planning to scan more than 180,000 records on IMMJ’s MediViewer electronic document management system.

As part of the programme the trust went live with MediView in its rheumatology department in early September and is now using it in most specialities.

Iron Mountain was contracted to carry out the digitisation of records, while the trust manages the day forward scanning in-house with the support of IMMJ. Iron Mountain’s ingestion process provides electronic handshakes as content flows between the delivery systems to ensure compliance with data privacy and industry regulations.

Barnsley Hospital’s chief clinical information officer Dr Dominic Bullas said: “The go live has taken Barnsley one step closer towards its digital vision.

“I’m very grateful to the digital leaders at Barnsley and our partners for getting it across the line and providing staff with an improved solution to support patient care.”
