Warwick District Council is first to provide data to central source for searches of Local Land Charges

HM Land Registry is to open its Local Land Charges (LLC) Register on 11 July, with the first data coming from Warwick District Council.

It will provide a route through the digital register for searches for property or land in the Warwick area, rather than going to the council, and will be joined over the next few months by data from 26 other local authorities in England.

The move is a step in providing a central digital resource for land and property searches. The register has been built with digital solutions company Kainos and makes the results of searches available in a range of formats, including PDF, XML and JSON.

Land Registry said the cost of a search will be £15, which is lower than the current average of charges by councils, and that it will provide the full spatial extent of every charge on the search result so the exact area affected will be visible.

It will also allow unlimited repeat searches for six months to check for any new charges before completing a transaction, and provide a search history dashboard, giving access to previous searches.

The project follows the passing of the Infrastructure Act 2015, which is consolidating the 20 million LLC records in council registers into a single source, and the migration process is scheduled to continue until 2023.
