Commission and consultancy sign three-year contract for further development of online route to 85,000 datasets
The European Commission has awarded a three-year contract to incumbent supplier Capgemini Consulting for the further development of the European Data Portal.
The portal, which went live in February 2016, currently provides access to nearly 850,000 datasets in 73 catalogues from 34 countries to encourage the re-use of public sector data.
Under the contract, Capgemini Consulting will also provide support to member states through setting up communities of practice, training and consultancy for their national open data portals.
The agreement will also include the measurement of open data maturity in Europe and an assessment of the market value of the data economy in light of the current and planned developments.
The company will coordinate the work of a number of partners and subcontractors, including the Capgemini Group’s technology and engineering services subsidiary Sogeti.

A Capgemini study published in 2015 forecast the value of the open data market in Europe would reach €75.7 billion by 2020, with a significant increase by approximately 37% between 2016 and 2020.
