Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW) has upgraded the mobile app for the Welsh Clinical Portal (WCP) with the additions of patient documents.

It said this will enable doctors to view patient information including referrals, outpatient letters and discharge advice letters without having to access a shared ward computer.

The mobile app was developed to enable relevant hospital staff to security access important patient information from a mobile device. It already provided access to test results and patients’ basic details.

Game changer

Rhidian Hurle, executive medical director of DHCW and chief clinical information officer for Wales, said: “The delivery of care documents into WCP mobile is a game changer in terms of patient safety, as visibility of these information rich documents helps clinical staff make informed decisions.

The app is available through Google Play and the Apple Store and needs an NHS login to access.

The WCP enables clinicians to view patients’ medical documents and GP records, prioritise referrals, request tests, access results, access radiology images, sign off results electronically, create patient watch lists and view details of medications and prescriptions.
