Darren Bassett, former deputy director for IT delivery at the Department for Education, talks about the priorities for an information asset owner in a large government organisation.

It is important that you know what data you’ve got, where it is stored, who has access to it and what it is going to be used for. Bassett outlines the department’s rationalisation of systems and services - part of which saw 13 instances of CRM brought down to one implementation of Microsoft Dynamics 365 - and how this places the department in a good position to handle subject access and freedom of information requests from May 2018.
